Being Proactive, Not Reactive

We encourage our employees to read “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey to increase their personal and professional skills. We believe this book is the book of knowledge behind some of the most successful people we know. The first habit in this book is, “be proactive, not reactive”.

Life does not happen to you, it happens because of you. Once you allow yourself to believe that you have full and total control over your life, you’ll also begin to realize you control how successful you are.

Think about the most successful people you know? Did they get their success handed to them? Most likely they didn’t, they had to work for it. It all started with an idea, and step-by-step, these believers worked towards attaining their ideas. Had these successful individuals waited for their ideas to magically appear without working for them, they would never be where they are.

In life, you have to work for what you want. Your goals must be prominent, first and foremost. If you want something bad enough, you’ll do whatever it takes to get there. This is what sets apart the ones who accomplish their goals, and the ones who never fully get there.

The best way to work towards your goals is to make a plan. Decide what you need to do to get to your final destination (goal), and create a map to get there. Work step-by-step until you make progress towards your goals and accomplish your end goal. Then set a new goal.

Those who have worked for their success never give up when they reach their end goal. They make more, and work towards those too. Being successful means never letting yourself stop growing. It means constantly changing, evolving, and bettering yourself personally and professionally. The most successful people around are consistently looking for ways to improve their personal and professional lives. They never stay stagnant.

It takes an internal drive to be proactive about the life you are living. Many people feel stuck because they let life happen to them. They don’t push themselves to grow or evolve into stronger versions of themselves. In order to work towards the top, one must be willing to make daily improvements towards being where they want to be.

Either you control your life, or life controls you. The choice is yours. Go after your goals.
